A Dawn Obsolete

Description
A coming of age for those born with talent or magic, in a future Earth where the government actively seeks out those called Scion. Eight main characters will each grow as artists—for magic doesn't always have to be about power, or conquering another world, or superheroes. Sometimes magic is just a reflection of who we want to be.
Sci-fi, fantasy, some historical fiction, inspiration from myth, music, anime, Shakespeare, movies, Hegel, fine art, and math symbols all come together into the first of seven in the series namedThe Light Apparent.
For UNOFFICIAL - NOT MY CREATION - celeb photos, anime pics, fanart, artist muses, Nightcafe AI, etc. that I use to help visualize the cast, please see https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Ptxk9_GGX1KnLR7bZLvYwjCcUsqcq--D?usp=sharing. None of these will be actually attached to the work with its eventual physical publication (except perhaps Nightcafe) but are PURELY for my visual aid (and yours too - but every character appears differently to its reader!). Note that it is also CURRENT, so a lot of the cast in there includes those introduced in recent chapters in Book 2.
I thank the Hector Fan Club, the first betas, for their feedback, theories, and casual observations which on occasion preluded the foundation. I am grateful to my mom for showing only amazement and congratulations and pride after I told her I'd written a novel. A shoutout to Emma for giving chapter-by-chapter feedback! And I could not do this without all of the artists and authors who have inspired me. Fiction may be a long hallway in the Hotel Trivago, but I'm trying my best to add a new floor.
Myriad songs, other fictional works, historical figures, words of the Bard, and many other references are used throughout. I do not write to infringe, only to continue a mode that has been forgotten.

Also, please note that the author's copy of bothA Dawn Obsoleteand the sequel are the most up to date; the Royal Road iterations will not be. But all await the eventual physical publication later this decade.

- susanbaek7Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Reading ADO is like waking up in another reality. As someone who doesn’t read this type of fantasy, I’ll admit I was a bit out of my depth at times. But that didn’t take away from the experience of traveling along with the colorful characters of this book.
I could tell that each character was written with great care. No one felt like a side note; every person you meet carries their own intricate arc, although I'll admit it was a bit difficult to keep up with the sheer number of names by the end of the book.
ADO is unlike anything I’ve read before. It plays with form and medium in a way that’s bold and experimental. It’s as if every art form was weaved into each page. The result is an immersive experience that surprises you with hidden easter eggs and plot twists.
ADO feels like what happens when a writer dares to dream big. It may challenge you, confuse you, and thrill you—but most of all, it will make you feel like you’ve witnessed something truly original. - JaneBrownRoyal Road★★★ 2.5The writing is fairly poor quality. Rather verbose and florid, but not in a deeping or beautiful way. It feels more clunky than anything, especially since there often are missing words in sentences.
I did like the premise and the world; how it was set up and where it might lead to. However I'm not keen on wasting my time having to fill in missing information that feels like a writing error rather than authorial choice.
