Description
A plague of terror has descended upon a small village, signaling the beginning of an upheaval in the way of life for a young Boy.

Absolutely amazing writing. Only one chapter is out so far and I've been immediately hooked.
I'm a bit lazy so I'll just copy-paste part of the comment I made: "You've got it all. I was especially impressed by the description of John unsheathing his sword.Honestly, you ask for criticism yet I have none to give. Your writing is already excellent—it's engaging, descriptive, and has very strong foundations (grammar, spelling, capitalization could be improved—"Elk"—though that's partly stylistic, punctuation, etc. You've got it all. I was especially impressed by the description of John unsheathing his sword. I can't remember the last time I read about a sword being oiled, despite the significance having an oiled blade makes."
Style:
Very good style. The writing is very descriptive and engaging, making it very easy for the reader to visualise the scene.
Grammar:
There were no basically no issues with grammar that I saw.
Story:
Can't say much about this so far since we're only one chapter in. We've learned about some worldbuilding, etc., but nothing really directly related towards an overarching plot. There was a cliff-hanger at the end of the chapter though... read to find out.
Character Score:
The characters were all written extremely well, whether through description or dialogue. The dialogue especially is very well written.
Very promising and I'm looking forward to more.
